How Can I Be Saved?
Understand the good news of Jesus, respond honestly to God, and take your first steps in Christian faith.
Begin with what God has done
The Christian message begins with God’s love and grace. Salvation is not a reward for having a perfect life, knowing all the answers, or belonging to the right social group. Christians believe that God offers forgiveness and a restored relationship with him through Jesus Christ.
The Bible describes sin as our turning away from God and failing to love him and one another. This is a shared human problem, not a reason to judge other people as less valuable. Romans 3:23–24 connects our need for mercy with the grace God offers in Christ.
Who is Jesus, and why does he matter?
Jesus is at the centre of Christian faith. Christians believe he is the Son of God, who came among us, died for our sins and rose from the dead. His death and resurrection make the invitation to forgiveness and new life possible. Read John 3:16–17 and 1 Corinthians 15:3–4 alongside the Gospel accounts.
Trusting Jesus means relying on him, rather than trying to earn God’s acceptance through good deeds. Good works matter as the fruit of a changed life, but they do not buy salvation (Ephesians 2:8–10).
Respond with repentance and faith
Repentance means turning towards God and away from sin. Faith means trusting Jesus and beginning to follow him. You can respond honestly, even while you still have questions. You do not need a special place, an audience, or impressive religious language to speak to God.
A prayer you can use as a starting point
God, I need your mercy. I am sorry for my sin and the ways I have turned away from you. I believe that Jesus died and rose again. Please forgive me and help me trust him. Teach me to follow you and to love others. Amen.
These words are not a formula that guarantees an outcome. What matters is sincerely turning to God and trusting Jesus.
What should I do next?
- Read about Jesus. Begin with a short passage in Mark or John. Our seven-day reading plan can help.
- Pray honestly. Bring your thanks, questions and needs to God.
- Find a local church. Look for a community that teaches the Bible, welcomes questions and cares for people responsibly.
- Ask about baptism. A trusted church leader can explain its meaning and the next steps in that community.
- Keep learning. Christian growth is a continuing journey, including repentance, encouragement and practical changes.
What if I still feel uncertain?
Faith is not measured by a single powerful feeling. Read God’s promises in Scripture and speak with a trusted Christian leader. Do not feel pressured to invent a dramatic experience. Questions can be brought into a thoughtful conversation.
Following Jesus does not remove every hardship or make a person instantly mature. You are invited into a life of dependence on God, supported by a community of believers.
